Dear Colleague from Schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland,
As you know, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a form of Child Abuse.
Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland LSCBs published FGM procedures in 2015, detailing what to do when you are made aware of a child or young person that has been subject to FGM or where there is potential for them to be taken abroad to be subjected to FGM.
Continued vigilance is required by all agencies who are in contact with the cohort of children and young people who may be exposed to or at risk of FGM. Dr Sethi's YouTube video continues to be a valuable source of information to support recognition and response to FGM
Research shows that the summer holidays are still the most prevalent times for this to happen.
With the summer holidays approaching fast, please can you print off the leaflet on FGM and discuss it within your next staff briefing or staff meeting. Further information and the attached leaflet can be found here.
Dr Sethi's film is available at here.
Many thanks
Andy Sharp/James Fox/Beverley Czyz
